Volunteering with us

Typeset is a volunteer-run non-profit organisation, aiming to help to make Rotherham a more vibrant place and support local creative people.

  • Do you want to connect with local creative community in Rotherham?
  • Are you committed to inclusivity, diversity, and equity?
  • Do you love the chill, inspiring vibes of a vintage bookshop?
  • Are you looking for new experiences to add to your CV?

Volunteering with us is a great way of being a part of something at the grassroots, run by local people for local people, while also building connections with collaborating organisations such as Sheffield University, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, and Barnsley College. Our board of directors is made up entirely of neurodivergent people, giving us a unique ability to accommodate diverse access needs (however, our space is not wheelchair-accessible).

Typically, you would help out by taking care of the shop for a few hours. We aim to create a space that is welcoming and relaxing, where you will enjoy spending an afternoon chatting with customers as well as doing whatever reading or other work you would like to bring with you. Additionally, volunteers sometimes help us with window dressing, social media, inventory management, event organising, or researching authors.
